MCCRANEY, Bessie V. (Dubuque, IA-- ). In 1967 Miss McCraney retired after fifty-two years with the [[DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT]]. Prior to her retirement in 1968 she had served as a director/principal at [[LINCOLN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL]] and [[AUDUBON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL]]. After completing high school in 1917, she attended the [[UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE]] passed the state teacher's exam and was hired for $25 per month as an assistant for the kindergarten teacher at Lincoln School. (1) In 1946 she was teaching kindergarten at Franklin Elementary School. (2) She later finished post-graduate work at Northwestern University and retired from [[IRVING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL]]. (3)
