After completing high school in 1917, she passed the state teacher's exam and was hired for $25 per month as an assistant for the kindergarten teacher at LINCOLN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. She retired from IRVING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
McCraney was a person with a long family history in Dubuque. Her great-great aunt, Susan Ann MCCRANEY was the first white child born in Iowa. Her grandfathers were Thomas McCraney and Solon LANGWORTHY.
