His family's property along Pennsylvania Avenue was for years the site of [[SILVER ACRES]]. Since the 1940s, however, much of the land had not been used. It was his decision to deed eight acres adjoining the [[FLORA PARK]] swimming pool to the city to establish a recreation area.
