MOLO, William L. (Dubuque, IA, 1922--Dubuque, IA, January 14, 1959). The son of Mr. and Mrs. Bart L. MOLO, Molo served as an executive of the MOLO COMPANIES until his retirement in 1953. An enthusiast about the MISSISSIPPI RIVER, he held a river captain's license for thirteen years. He was a member of the DUBUQUE SHOOTING SOCIETY, DUBUQUE BOAT CLUB, and the DUBUQUE GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB.

His family's property along Pennsylvania Avenue was for years the site of SILVER ACRES. Since the 1940s, however, much of the land had not been used. It was his decision to deed eight acres adjoining the FLORA PARK swimming pool to the city to establish a recreation area.

Molo was prominent in river promotion and was the owner of several sternwheel steamboats.
