W. W. CARR AND COMPANY. Following a disastrous fire in November 1879, the CARR, AUSTIN AND COMPANY rented buildings on Iowa Street near ATHERTON, WALKER & CO. for manufacturing until their new building was finished. (1) After some consideration of relocating to Wisconsin, the company chose to rebuild in Dubuque with their factory designed by F. D. HYDE. (2) Adams sold his interest in the company.
The 1880 Dubuque City Directory stated that this business was to be found at 388 Main.
