1873 advertisement in city directory.

METROPOLITAN SALE AND LIVERY STABLES. The 1868 Guide, Gazetteer and Directory of the Dubuque & Soux (sic) City Railroad stated that this business was located on 4th between Main and Locust. It was operated by Jaeger & Decker in 1872 and the gilt-letter sign identified it as the "Metropolitan Stables." (1) In 1876 the interest in the business had been sold to Charlie and Wallie Gibbs which changed the name to Ratcliffe & Gibbs. (2)

The 1875-1876 Dubuque City Directory gave the address as 139 4th.

The 1886-87 through 1890-91 Dubuque City Directory listed the Metropolitan Livery Establishment at 4th and Locust.

The 1899-1900 Dubuque City Directory listed 77-83 4th.

The 1913 Dubuque and Dubuque County Directory and the 1915 Dubuque City Directory stated that the Metropolitan Livery was located at 145 4th
