Basket phaeton

Lagen and Sons was located opposite RATCLIFFE, JAEGER AND COMPANY in 1876.

Lagen and Sons stabled thirty horses and had seven double carriages, fourteen top buggies, four wagons, six double sleighs, and ten cutters. The company was especially known for its basket phaetons. The omnibus line operated by the company involved 16 horses, 4 buses, 2 hacks, 2 baggage wagons, 4 omnibus sleighs, and six men. The running expenses amounted to between $3,000 and $4,000 annually. (2)

In 1877 the company purchased a $1,000 carriage from the CONNOLLY CARRIAGE MANUFACTORY. The company was intent on making sure that no company "eclipsed them in style or outfit, careful drivers, or responsible charges. (3)
