GRIGG, Joseph J. (Cornwall, England, Feb. 8, 1839--Nov. 26, 1926). At the age of fifteen, Grigg began serving a five and one-half year apprenticeship in the carpenter's trade. He then worked two years in Plymouth and six years in London.

Grigg came to the United States in 1865 and moved directly to Dubuque. He worked two years for others and then began his own business. In Dubuque, Grigg was responsible for construction of the Klein and Walker Block, Boston Dry Goods Block, Iowa Block, Schriber and Conchar Block, and the Conchar residence.

In addition to his own business, Grigg was one of the organizers of the DUBUQUE PRESSED BRICK COMPANY and the KEY CITY FIRE INSURANCE COMPANY.
