GLAB BROTHERS. Located on the southwest corner of Twenty-seventh Street and Couler Avenue, the Glab Brothers brewery was operated by Nicholas GLAB, Alois Glab and Frank Glab. The brewery known previously as the NORTHERN BREWING COMPANY became part of the DUBUQUE BREWING AND MALTING COMPANY.

In 1891 the brewery announced major construction. Included were two cold storage buildings with a capacity of 20,000 barrels each. There were two new 40 horse-power boilers installed and the office was enlarged into the space that had been a saloon which was relocated into a former sitting room. (1)

All that remained at the site of the former brewery in 2010 was an overgrown semi-circle of stone that signaled the entrance into the cave where the beer was stored. One of the buildings used by the brewery, it is believed, for their horses is now the home of KEY CITY DECORATIVE GLASS WORKS.
