KEY CITY DECORATIVE GLASS WORKS. Key City Decorative Glass Works started in 1910 to make glass for the sash and door companies of Dubuque. In 1917 the company was also involved in lense grinding and replaced wind shields John Gasell joined the company in the early 1900s and bought the company in 1924. He was succeeded by his son, Dan and grandson, Gary.
When the sash and door businesses in Dubuque began to go out of business the emphasis changed to church work. Projects began with making repairs and gradually shifted to new windows. The company made the windows at HOLY TRINITY CATHOLIC CHURCH and many for HOLY GHOST CATHOLIC CHURCH. Beginning with a sketch, the drawing is then made to actual size. Pattern scissors are used to cut along the lines because they make a wider line showing where the leading will go. When the design is fitted together, every joint is soldered and cemented.
The company closed around 2018.
The 1913 Dubuque and Dubuque County Directory stated that this business was located at 356 7th.
The 1916-1917 White's Dubuque County Directory listed 1295 Jackson as the address .
The 1934 Dubuque City Directory and 1939 Dubuque City Directory listed 1598 Jackson.
The 1948 Dubuque Classified Business Directory through 1962 Dubuque City Directory listed 1385 Jackson.
The 1964 through 2014 Dubuque City Directory listed 75 W. 30th St.
