CHURCH OF FREE SOULS
CHURCH OF FREE SOULS. One of the newest churches to Dubuque, the Church of the Free Souls was opened in January, 2020 by Susan Price and Scott Cornwell, the founding pastor and secretary, respectively. All worshipers were welcome regardless of denomination, affiliation, or belief. According to Pastor Cornwell, the church wanted to escape the dogma, literature, and traditions of concentrate on connecting with the divine.
Services were held three-time weekly at the SMOKESTACK (THE). Although attendance was generally no more than six participants, the service included a brief opening prayer, guided mediation, silent worship, and music. The structure according to Price was drawn from aspects of Native American traditions, Quaker, and Buddhism.
The benefits of interfaith worship was emphasized. The Church of Free Souls, in this way, mirrored such other groups as the DUBUQUE AREA CONGREGATIONS UNITED and CHILDREN OF ABRAHAM.
