DUBUQUE AREA CONGREGATIONS UNITED. Founded in 1979, the organization was originally known as the Dubuque Area Christians United. In 1994, the organization voted 17-11 to revise its by-laws, open its memberships to all faiths, and rename itself. TEMPLE BETH-EL, Dubuque only Jewish congregation, joined DACU in 1995. In 1999 Ann Barrash, from Temple Beth-El, became DACU's first Jewish president. (1)

DACU sponsored two annual worship services--on the night before Thanksgiving and an outdoor service in June. The group also maintained its activity in the Dubuque Food Pantry, CROP Walk, People in Need, and UNICEF. (2)
