STOLTEBEN, Hildegarde. (Dubuque, IA, Feb. 7, 1890--Apr. 29, 1981). Hildegard, granddaughter of William STOLTEBEN, for many years was a teacher at DUBUQUE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL. She taught journalism and was the debate coach, but her primary subject was English.

She received her master's degree at a time when most women did not attend college. Stolteben also helpED establish the University of Iowa's Quill and Scroll chapter devoted to activities and service that best serve the school's journalism/media program. In this effort, she worked with George Gallup who developed the influential Gallup Poll.
