PLEINS & BEACH. The 1858-1859 Dubuque City Directory listed Dodge at the foot of Bluff.
The 1859-1860 through 1868-69 Dubuque City Directory listed the corner of Locust and Dodge.
The 1870-1871 Dubuque City Directory gave the address of this business as the west side of Locust south of Dodge.
The 1873-74 through 1880 Dubuque City Directory listed the corner of Locust and Dodge.
In 1873 the Dubuque Herald announced that F. M. PLEINS was the first to receive letters of patent on soap making from the Patent Office in Washington, D. C. (1) Pleins moved to St. Paul, Minnesota where he opened another soap manufacturing plant as a branch of the Dubuque firm. This new business, however, was destroyed by fire. (2)
