KRETSCHMER, Herbert C. (Dubuque, IA, Aug. 2, 1866--Dubuque, IA, Sept. 11, 1933).  Kretschmer was the son of [[KRETSCHMER, Charles G.|Charles G. KRETSCHMER]], principal of the Fifth Ward School. At the age of fifteen, Herbert began working as a plumber's assistant for [[MORRISON BROTHERS COMPANY]]. He later found work at the [[A.Y.MCDONALD MANUFACTURING COMPANY]] as a shipping boy.

Kretschmer rose in the company to become a salesman. In 1907 he formed a partnership with his brother, Frederick N. KRETSCHMER. This was announced in 1909 when the MORRISON-KRETSCHMER MANUFACTURING COMPANY amended its articles of incorporation to change its name to the KRETSCHMER MANUFACTURING COMPANY.
