BIRTHRIGHT OF DUBUQUE. Birthright was established in Canada in 1968. Founded locally in 1972, Birthright was chartered by Mary Brown, Marian Schuelle, and Kenny Herbst. Volunteers working out of their homes provided pregnant women with an alternative to abortion. Receiving no federal money or grants, the organization existed on donations from individuals, businesses and churches.

Volunteers in 1997 provided pregnancy testing in the downtown office, discussed the results with clients, and helped with referrals to community agencies. Those in need could receive maternity or baby clothes, blankets, diapers, and other baby-care items. Annually between 500-600 women came to the center.

The 1977 Dubuque City Directory listed 799 Main Rm 203.

The 1987 through 1993 Dubuque City Directory listed 701 Bluff.

The city directory in 2011 listed the address as 1125 Main.
