BIRTHRIGHT OF DUBUQUE. Birthright was established in Canada in 1968. Chartered by Birthright, International on September 20, 1972, Birthright was oganized by Mary Brown, Marian Schuelle, and Kenny Herbst. Volunteers working out of their homes provided pregnant women with an alternative to abortion. Receiving no federal money or grants, the organization existed on donations from individuals and businesses. (1) In 2022 as the organization was celebrating its 50th year in Dubuque, many supplies were collected through church-sponsored baby drives. (2)

Volunteers in 1997 provided pregnancy testing in the downtown office, discussed the results with clients, and helped with referrals to community agencies. Those in need could receive maternity or baby clothes, blankets, diapers, and other baby-care items.

The 1977 Dubuque City Directory listed 799 Main Rm 203.

The 1987 through 1993 Dubuque City Directory listed 701 Bluff.

The city directory in 2011 listed 1125 Main.

According to the Telegraph Herald, the organization in 2022 was located at 221 W. 9th Street. (3)
