GLAB, John. (Guegesheim, Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany, Nov. 11, 1834-Dubuque, IA, Oct. 7, 1922). MAYOR. Glab migrated to the United States as a child with his family and settled on a farm in Dubuque County. As an adult, he freighted wood on the MISSISSIPPI RIVER until 1865 when he bought and operated a distillery and a flourmill. (1) The 1868-69 Duubuque City Directory listed the mill at the northeast corner of 9th and Pine.
