YOUNG AMERICA CONSOLIDATED MINING COMPANY OF DUBUQUE
YOUNG AMERICA CONSOLIDATED MINING COMPANY OF DUBUQUE. Organized on April 13, 1878 with capital of $300,000 divided into $100 shares half of which was owned in Dubuque, the company by May owned a silver mine in Nevada. J. N. Hill of Dubuque was sent to the mine to look after the interests of the Dubuque owners and was made superintendent.
Mining operations were unable to begin until late July, but on August 12, 1878 a silver brick weighing 938.5 ounces was received in Dubuque by express. The value of the brick was $822.37.
Dubuque investors included William G. STEWART, James H. SHIELDS, Henry Boteler FOUKE and W. Y. Bissell.
