WEMOTT, S. S. (Lewis Co., N.Y., Jan. 5, 1830--Unknown). Wemott came to Iowa in 1855 and lived in Davenport for one year before coming to Dubuque. He established WEMOTT, HOWARD AND COMPANY, importers and jobbers of crockery, glassware, china and cutlery, and wholesale dealers in wooden and willow ware at 656 to 664 Main Street in 1867.

By the late 1880s the firm enjoyed a large trade through Iowa and into Minnesota, Nebraska, Dakota, Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. Wemott also served as the president of the Dubuque Library Association.

He moved to St. Paul, Minnesota around 1890. (1)
