WEIMER, John H.
WEIMER, John H. (Galena, IL, June 15, 1860--Dubuque, IA, Mar. 23, 1947). Weimer served three terms as county auditor from January 1, 1899 to December 31, 1904 before his political defeat by Jacob HAUDENSHIELD.
The son of German immigrants, Weimer learned the printer's trade at the Galena Gazette where he worked for eight years before coming to Dubuque. He worked at the Herald for seven years, including four as a foreman, before working for HARDIE AND SCHARLE.
Weimer was a pioneer in the local labor union movement. He was a member of the International Typographical Union and a charter member of the Dubuque Council of the Knights of Columbus. Weimer also worked as a teller at the UNION TRUST AND SAVINGS BANK.
