WAPLES & WALMSLEY. The 1858-1859 through 1859-1860 Dubuque City Directory listed Locust between 7th and 8th. In the same year they were listed as a clothier/dry goods store at 79 Main.
Robert C. Waples, a partner in the business, was also involved in real estate, lumber, and steamboating. He platted the community of Key West. Brought to financial ruin by a financial crash, he moved to Le Mars and then Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he died in 1890. (1)
