WAGNER, Robert
WAGNER, Robert. (Dubuque, IA-- ). A 1981 graduate of DUBUQUE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, Wagner in 2013 was named Special Olympics North America's Coach of the Year. Wagner taught Special Olympians how to ski when the Winter Games began in Dubuque twenty-eight years earlier. He served as Iowa's head softball coach during three Special Olympics National Games and coached softball during the 1999 World Games and alpine skiing during the 2005 World Games.
The Coach of the Year Award was begun in the late 1980s. It is awarded annually to an active, certified Special Olympics coach who meets certain criteria including making a significant and demonstrable impact on local Special Olympics programs and their communities.
