Unmacht, James. (Dubuque, IA, Jan. 10, 1930--Dubuque, IA, Apr. 7, 1997). A graduate of DUBUQUE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, he received his B.A. in 1955 from Wartburg College, and his master's degree from the University of Iowa. He coached and taught in Menlo, Iowa from 1955-1956. (1) Unmacht was hired into the DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT in 1956. (12) He coached and then taught physical education until 1990. He also worked at the DUBUQUE PACKING COMPANY for thirteen years.

For sixteen years, he served on the board of directors at LUTHER MANOR, often as the president or vice-president, and chaired the building committee for the Alzheimer's wing. He was a member of the DUBUQUE EDUCATION ASSOCIATION and the Retired Teachers Association. (3)
