TREWIN, Clifton Baker. (Meacham's Corner near Glen Ellyn, IL, July 13, 1863--Dubuque, IA, Jan. 2, 1940). Upon the death of their father in 1873, Trewin and his brother hitched up a wagon and drove their cattle herd to Fredericksburg, Iowa. He attended the local school and later Upper Iowa University in Fayette and the Epworth Seminary.
Upon graduation, he taught at several schools before becoming the principal of the Earlville School. (1) Trewin moved to Dubuque in 1885 and studied law. In 1887, he and W.A. Leathers bought the books and data of Taymor Connell and became abstractors as the firm of LEATHERS AND TREWIN. Trewin remained in this business the rest of his life eventually forming C. B. TREWIN INC. He was also the owner of the FENELON PLACE ELEVATOR for forty years. (2)
Appointed county auditor on February 1, 1923, when the resignation of Cletus BREITBACH took effect, Trewin served until December 31, 1924.
