THREERIDGE. Mussel. A commercial species, this mussel is known by such common names as Blue-point, purple-tip, fluter.

The habitat of this specie is small to large rivers and impounded waters in mud, sand, or gravel. It is declining in some small streams. Despite being of commercial value, it is the most abundant mussel in the upper MISSISSIPPI RIVER and probably the only type of mussel that can tolerate continued harvest.

Hosts for the young include pumpkinseed, largemouth bass, shortnose gar and yellow perch.
