TAVERNS. While Central Avenue was not the only place in Dubuque which featured taverns, it held a special attraction for years. On Friday night, many employees ending the work week established a contest. Beginning at different points, groups of men would see how many establishments they could visit and drink one beer each before moving on to the next. The last man on his feet "won."
This "event" was called the "Central Run."
