TABLE MOUND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. Established in 1960 as part of the Table Mound School District, Table Mound School was built as a five-room school for grades kindergarten through eighth. Students from eight one-room schools that had been consolidated by state law were served.

In 1962 the school was annexed by the DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT. At that time, the building became a kindergarten through sixth grade elementary school. In recent years, Table Mound showed one of the most rapid enrollment increases in the District.

In 1992, Table Mound Elementary School became the first public school in Dubuque to become a business partner with a local business, DUBUQUE BANK AND TRUST COMPANY. In addition to the bank, Table Mound students learned how WILLIAM C. BROWN COMPANY made textbooks, how checking accounts worked with Dubuque Bank and Trust, information about airplanes from the DUBUQUE REGIONAL AIRPORT, elements of architecture and drafting from the DURRANT GROUP (THE), and working a cash register and counting money from the HARDEE'S on Twin Valley Drive. The school would offer blood pressure checks to company employees, artwork for the businesses to display, involvement of the business in all school activities, and a drug-awareness program for the business employees. In 2002 the board of education awarded a $3,065.690 construction contract to Prism-Corporation to build an 18,300 square foot space for six new second and third grade classrooms, art and music rooms, and a gymnasium. The addition was quickly needed with an anticipated increase in the school population to between 550 and 580 students. The district received a $1 million Vision Iowa grant for the project which was the largest construction in the district since 1990. (2)
