STRELESKY, John Joseph. (Mineral Point, WI, Feb. 1, 1881--Dubuque, IA, May 20, 1958). As an employee of the EDE'S ROBE TANNING COMPANY, Strelesky arrived in Omaha, Nebraska in December 1909 to open a branch of the home plant in Dubuque.
Although the Dubuque company had a large trade in the West, it had hopes of enlarging their business and avoid expensive freight charges. The firm did not buy hides or furs it made into lap robes and garments. By avoiding this part of the business, the company dealt directly with the customers. Farmers, stock growers or hunters brought their hides to the Ede's company to be tanned or dressed and made into fur garments or lap robes. The company also mounted birds, fur animals, and animal heads.
