STRAND, Kurt. In April, 2017 Kurt Strand, a former senior vice president of strategic relationships at McGraw-Hill Higher Education and president of McGraw-Hill's Science, Engineering and Mathematics group from 2004-2011, was named the new president and CEO of the DUBUQUE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY and the NATIONAL MISSISSIPPI RIVER MUSEUM AND AQUARIUM. He succeeded Robert DAVIS.

In addition to his employment record in Dubuque, Strand served as chairman of the board of the GREATER DUBUQUE DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION, member of the board of the DUBUQUE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, and member of the finance committee of the COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF GREATER DUBUQUE.

Strand mentioned his intention of relying on contacts he had made with the national and international scientific community while working with authors to raise the profile of the museum. In 2017 the museum had an average of 200,000 visitors annually with an annual operating budget of $73 million and 2,600 members.
