SONG OF DUBUQUE
SONG OF DUBUQUE. Bicentennial music written by Sister Carol Hoverman's fourth grade class at SAINT MARY'S SCHOOL. In 1976 the song won a bicentennial composition contest sponsored by Mr. Music and RADIO station WDBQ.
The lyrics in seven verses, sung to the tune "Sweet Betsy From Pike," tell of Dubuque from its founding to its future. The song, chosen from thirty entries, was recorded by Dubuque entertainer Bob Coleman and the fourth graders; it was then played on the RADIO. Sheet music was to be printed and available free of charge by Memorial Day.
