SIMPLOT, Henry. (Besancon, France, Mar. 4, 1805--Dubuque, IA, 1846). Simplot and his wife came to Dubuque in 1836. They purchased a lot on the corner of Main and First STREETS and he established a mercantile business. He gradually entered the business of buying and selling of grain and then pork packing and became very wealthy.

Simplot served as an alderman on the city council under MAYOR Caleb H. BOOTH.

His son was Alexander SIMPLOT.
