ROEHL, John
ROEHL, John. (Glocksin, Meckleburg, Germany, Nov. 10, 1843--Dubuque, IA, Jan. 13, 1913). Roehl and his parents emigrated from Germany and came directly to Dubuque in 1896. Shortly after their arrival, John's father drowned and being the oldest of the children, John provided for the family.
In 1886 Roehl and John Homan formed a partnership under the name of HOMAN & ROEHL and carried out a furniture and house furnishing business at Sixth and Main. Beginning in 1898, the business was moved to the Town Clock building.
In 1912 Henry F. Roehl, John's son, bought out the interests of his father and with Mr. Homan continued the business.
