ROBEY, George E.
ROBEY, George E. (Dubuque, IA, Sept. 14, 1936--Dubuque, IA, Nov. 11, 2010). Robey attended the University of Iowa where he was a member of the Hawkeye Marching Band from 1954 to 1956. He was also active in the Pershing Rifles, an ROTC military group. Robey graduated with a commission in the United States Army and a degree in economics.
Following military service, Robey and his wife Susanna Horton ROBEY returned to Dubuque to enter the retail jewelry business with his father, Ray, at SIBBING'S JEWELRY.
He joined the JAYCEES in 1963 and held the offices of secretary, director and vice president before "aging out" in 1973. The organization later awarded him a Life Membership.
He and his wife, Susie, co-founded the Debonair Dance Club. He was active in the DUBUQUE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, American Cancer Society, the Dubuque Downtown Association, Dubuque Evening Lions Club, Tri-State Flyers, and from 1964 to 2004 the Key City Flyers. Robey received the "Melvin Jones" Award from the Lions Clubs International.
