RICHTER, Henry
RICHTER, Henry. (Prussia, Germany, Nov. 24, 1844-- ). At the age of thirteen, Richter began learning his trade. When 17 1/2 years old, he left home and worked at his trade in Russia, Hamburg, Berlin and Leipzig, and elsewhere.
He came to the United States in 1869 and worked in the large carriage factory of Coan & Ten Broecke, Chicago. In 1871, he came to Dubuque and worked for Thomas CONNOLLY and for seven years held the position of foreman of the wood-working department. He later joined John NEWMAN in the firm of Richter & Newman, carriage and wagon manufacturers, at Third and Locust streets before going into business for himself. (1)
In 1871 he campaigned for state senator on the Democratic ticket. (2)
