REALEMON. Popular reconstituted lemon juice offering uniform acidity, easy-to-measure quantities, and no squeezing. The product was developed by Irvin Schwartzberg, an immigrant from England, who settled with his parents in Dubuque.

Known to childhood friends as "Chubby," Schwartzberg lived in an apartment on Elm Street. His father joined his brother in operating a shoe store at Eighth and Main.

Schwartzberg later studied marketing and food technology at the University of Chicago and Northwestern University. Working with the Army, he developed powdered lemon juice for K-rations used during WORLD WAR II.

Schwartzberg sold Realemon to the Borden Company in 1962 and later served as president of Amco Industries, the world's largest distributor of Toyota automobiles. In died in 1984.
