PUNT, PASS AND KICK CONTEST. The Punt, Pass and Kick Contest was a nationally contest sponsored by the National Football League. Chuck Costa was the first Iowan to participate in the finals when he was 11 years old. He was attending St. Anthony in 1966. (1)

Costa won the local contest in Dubuque early in October and then on October 30 topped a field of 12 district finalists in a contest at Bettendorf representing over 300 communities in Iowa and Illinois. The final competition with finalists in other age groups occurred during intermission at the San Francisco 49er-Green Pay Packers National Football League game in the Milwaukee County Stadium. (2)

Advertising posters for the contest bore a sketch (drawn by Norman Rockwell) of Michael MERCER and a boy.
