PLANNED PARENTHOOD. On January 26, 2016 Planned Parenthood of the Heartland officials announced the closing of the organization's Dubuque health center. Effective immediately, the organization would no longer offer services provided by a clinician at the center located at 3365 Hillcrest Road. The group would, however, continue to provide telemedicine abortion by appointment and other non-clinician services until the building was sold.

Planned Parenthood beginning in 2014 began closing Iowa clinics. Citing a "shifting need for services," clinics had been closed in Red Oak, Creston, Ankeny, Fort Dodge, Fort Madison, Knoxville, Newton, Mount Pleasant, Storm Lake, Spencer and Washington. Demand for services in Dubuque had remained "remarkably flat" in recent years.

The Dubuque clinic opened in 2008 and until 2012 was located in a building on Main Street.
