PISTOLGRIP. Also known as Buckhorn, peanut, turkey wing, the pistolgrip mussel lives in medium to large rivers in mud, sand, or gravel. Although widespread, it is relatively uncommon and is considered endangered in Iowa. The host fishes for the young include flathead catfish and yellow and brown bullheads.
