PIEROTTI, Eugene L. "Gene" (Chicago, IL, Dec. 26, 1931--Dubuque, IA, December 24, 2015). The son of Dario and Bruna (Gregolini), Pierotti spent four years in the U.S. Navy during the KOREAN CONFLICT before graduating from LORAS COLLEGE in 1959. On June 3, 1961, Gene married Genevieve Colbert at Holy Family Church in Mason City, Iowa.

Pierotti taught and coached at Holy Family and Newman high schools in Mason City before moving to Dubuque in 1964. He coached men's and women's golf. During the 1960s, Wahlert's women's golf team won three state championships. (1) He also coached sophomore boys' basketball at WAHLERT CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL and taught industrial arts.

He was the athletic director from 1970 until his retirement in 1997. During these years, Wahlert won 24 team and 54 individual state championships. The school's athletic teams increased from 9 to 18 and the coaching staff from 26 to 60. He led the school's transition from independent status to membership in the Mississippi Valley Conference.
