PICKUP, George
PICKUP, George. (Dubuque (?)--Columbus, OH, Mar. 24, 1953). An employee of ADAMS COMPANY (Encyclopedia Dubuque) since the age of fourteen, Pickup drove one of the company's cars in an endurance contest between Chicago, Illinois and Minneapolis, Minnesota placing third. (1)
The first representative of a Dubuque company in Europe, he became the company's European representative around 1900. (2) In 1904 Pickup was in charge of the company's World's Fair exhibit for which it was said to have spent $10,000. (3)
Pickup left Dubuque at an early age and at the time of his death held over one hundred patents in his name. (4)
