PARKLETS. Initiated by the City of Dubuque Sustainability Office and DUBUQUE MAIN STREET, LTD., the first Park(ing) Day was offered on September 15-16, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. Friday until 7:00 p.m. Saturday. The project was part of a global effort to temporarily convert parking spaces into public parks to support safer greener and more equitable streets. The "parklets" were offered on Main Street from 5th Street to 11th Street, on Central Avenue from 14th Street to 19th Street, an on Washington Street from 9th Street to 11th Street. Activities included selling items, creating a makeshift pool, and creating miniature parks.
