PAPER PONDSHELL. Mussel. This species of mussel has a smooth, shiny, light yellow shell when young with the rest of the shell brownish green, occasionally with fine green rays. The length may reach to 4 inches (10.2 cm).

Considered widespread and locally abundant, the mussel has a habitat of ponds, lakes, and sluggish mud-bottomed pools of creeks and rivers.
