NORTHWESTERN CARRIAGE AND WAGON MANUFACTURING CO.
NORTHWESTERN CARRIAGE AND MANUFACTURING COMPANY. In 1867 the company was one of the newest in Dubuque. With a capacity of two wagons daily, the company that year had signed a contract to manufacture fifteen sleighs. (1)
In 1872 it completed an advance advertising wagon for the Older's Circus that was wintering in Independence. An newspaper article pointed to the ornamental and descriptive painting from the brush of Dr. Rodier. (2) In the same year the company made an assignment of their establishment to Rudolph Nolte of Dubuque. While not caused by insolvency, the company had between $5,000-$6,000 in debt which could be paid "in reasonable time." (3)
The 1868 Guide, Gazetteer and Directory of the Dubuque & Soux (sic) City Railroad stated that this business was located on Iowa between 8th and 9th.
The 1868-69 through 1873-74 Dubuque City Directory stated that this business could be found on the southeast corner of 9th and Iowa.
The 1875-1876 Dubuque City Directory gave the address of the Northwestern Carriage Works as 310 White.
