NELSON, David. (Dubuque, IA--Walland, TN, Jan. 25, 2017). The fastest sprinter in Dubuque while he attended high school, David Nelson earned a track and field scholarship to the UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE. Upon graduation, he trained as a physical therapist at the University of Iowa. His sub-specialty was dealing with pain. He was certified an arthritis specialist by the American Physical Therapy Association and a certified specialist in office ergonomics and manual therapy. He worked many years in East Tennessee therapy clinics and later served as the administrator and chief physical therapist at Sunshine Physical Therapy Clinic at Vero Beach, Florida. David was former member of The National and Central Florida Speakers' Association.

Retired from being a physical therapist, he began writing. He was named the Cowboy Poet Laureate of Tennessee and performed his Cowboy Comedy Show nationwide. David wrote The Shade Tree Choir about growing up in Dubuque at a time that he was dealing with his psychiatric diagnosis of clinical depression. He felt by telling others about his past including child abuse he could help heal himself. He wrote the book, Stress Management: Does Anyone in Chicago Know About It? at a time when he taught groups how to manage their stress. He was a former instructor of Tai Chi and used meditation and a vast array of methods to manage his depression and stress.

In 2016 he was inducted into the Dubuque Senior High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

David's blog (http://davinelsonauthor.com/blog) covered all types of topics related to mental health issues. He used his blog to help others.
