NATIONAL OFFICE MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION. The Dubuque chapter of the National Office Management Association received its charter in 1960. There were thirty Dubuque charter members and guests from Chicago, the Quad Cities, Cedar Rapids, and Des Moines at the ceremony.

The coming of automation was seen as a new challenge for the office. Despite the automation of the office, white collar jobs had risen 33% in the last decade compared with only 3% in blue collar jobs. It was noted that in 1930 only one in 40 workers were employed in offices. This had risen to one in 12 by 1940 and one in 6 in 1960. The national president commented that 'we can look forward to the day when he can talk into a machine that will type out what is being said and a reproduction machine will on on every desk in the office.'
