MULGREW, James Patrick. (Dubuque,IA, Mar. 17 1936--Dubuque, IA, Sept. 7, 1997). Mulgrew graduated from LORAS COLLEGE and was attending Notre Dame as a pre-law student when his father Carl died. James returned to Dubuque and served as president MULGREW OIL COMPANY for forty-one years before retiring in 1996. He served the company during such industry-wide events as the energy crisis, shifting to self-service stations, and legislation concerning leaking underground storage tanks. He was a member of the National Jobber Advisory Board of AMOCO.

Within the community, Mulgrew volunteered for Project Concern, Children's Hospital in Iowa City, ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY, ST. STEPHEN'S FOOD BANK, and United Way.
