MILLS, David M.
MILLS, David M. (Dubuque, IA, Jan. 25, 1946--Sept. 7, 2017) The son of Ann (Heer) and Joe Mills, David attended St. Anthony’s elementary school and was a member of the first freshman class at WAHLERT CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL, graduating in 1964. He attended the prestigious Minneapolis School of Art, graduating in 1967. The same year he earned a special summer term scholarship at Yale University.
David moved to New York City to start a career as an artist and designer. He worked briefly as a painter for Carl Mann Studios in New York, producing large-scale canvases for residential and commercial interiors. He then began to make his personal mark as a popular interior designer. His work was featured in Architectural Digest Magazine. In 1989, David was commissioned to design the main set of the first American arts display in Moscow following Glasnost. He began to import Russian art and held an exclusive opening at Macy’s on 5th Avenue.
