MERCANTILE BANK OF DUBUQUE. Formerly FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF DUBUQUE. In 1993, First National joined the largest state-owned holding company in Iowa and became known as Hawkeye Bank. In 1996, Hawkeye Bank joined Mercantile Bancorporation, Inc. Founded in 1855 and based in St. Louis, Missouri, Mercantile was one of the largest banking organizations in the Midwest, operating from over four hundred offices in Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Illinois, and Iowa.
