MANNING, June. (Dubuque, IA, June 6, 1944--Dubuque, IA, Aug. 3, 1990). The daughter of Fred and Nora (Devaney) Kurl, June graduated from WAHLERT CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL in 1962 and married Terry Manning in 1963. June worked as an associate in the DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT and in the kitchen at Wahlert. She served the YOUNG WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION (Y.W.C.A.) as executive director from 1973 to 1983 and conducted many tours for the organization. She founded the "Widow to Widow" support group.

Manning held membership in the DUBUQUE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE and served on the board of directors of Friendship Force. She was an active participant in the Community Betterment Committee of the Chamber, Y. W. Women, Y. W. Financial Development Committee, and the DUBUQUE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA fund drive. She was a proud member of the South Hill Street Neighborhood group.

In November 1990, Manning was posthumously awarded the Friendship Force Volunteer Award at the group's 11th annual meeting. Active in Friendship Force for eleven years, Manning was credited with encouraging people to participate in the group.
